Frankenweenie!

My favourite film director and producer is back with his latest work, Frankenweenie!

From Walt Disney Studios and Tim Burton comes a dark and quirky film - Frankenweenie - which probably also has a peculiar sense of humor as well.  I have been a fan of Tim Burton's works and this is definitely a must-watch for me. :)

According to the producers, the story tells of a young boy who loves his pet dog (Sparky) so much so that he tries to revive him back to life. In the process of doing so, he had gone through a series of monstrous experiments and came across many adventures that perhaps are not all smooth-sailing!

I think I can understand how Victor (the young boy) feels when his best pal left him.  I love my pet dog very much and can't imagine the day when she dies!  But when the day comes and I have to keep QQ by my side forever, I would do either one of the following (or try them all!):

1.  After she passes, I will freeze her (instead of burial or cremation), extract her faulty organs, and replace them with young/fresh ones in order to prolong her life! 
2. While she is still alive, I will extract her DNA and pass it to a scientist and mutate QQ into a better breed of canine so that she is immune to diseases and old age! 
3. If all of is in the Matrix right now, I will store all her data so that I can program the both of us in it to live forever and not grow old.

Real Steel, Real Good

Hahaha, very cheesy title I know, still love it! :D

The latest movie from Disney, REAL STEEL, will be out tomorrow in theatres, 6 October 2011, here in Singapore!

I caught the premiere last week and we were both very impressed with the graphics. {Spoiler alert!}

The plot was a little predictable, but still very much enjoyable overall. Real Steel stars Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton, a seemingly irresponsible and scheming dad who is obsessed with robots and boxing. He was dubbed to be the boxing champion in his earlier days before robot boxing became more popular than traditional boxing.

Later, he reunited with his son (Dakota Goyo) in order to make use of him to earn some fast money. However, over the Summer the duo spent together, they learnt to appreciate each other and battled their way through to the World Robot Championships, with the help of a second generation sparring bot, Atom.

Atom is displayed at the Atrium of The Cathay now!

The almighty Zeus - created by the Russians - is known to be unbeatable, until they meet Atom and the Father-son duo.

It's a heartwarming film with a story focusing on kinship, yet at the same time makes you really excited because the robot scenes were excellent (I <3 robots!).

I always liked Disney's FB games, they're very interactive and creative. Instead of just the usual key-in-your-particulars lucky draw, the talented people actually make sure you have a fun time. They even have pseudo-microsites for you to read more about the characters and plot, awesome!

And now I just bugged a friend to print the robot figurine for me. :D Hey, Noisy Boy can fetch me 4000 points if I do him right {hahaha} okay!

For 5000 points, you got to get a QR code. Go figure this out yourself!

I did poorly for the "Train Atom" challenge. The light to prompt me was too similar to  the light that indicate I "boxed" correctly. So I waited, and then those pauses were counted as "misses". Meh. Sucks.

I almost didn't make it

Both the boyfriend and I think that Dakota Goyo performed really well in this film, and that he and Hugh Jackman shared good chemistry on screen.

I Am Number Four

Blogging from The Cathay for the first time, and hope to watch I Am Number Four again at Cathay Cineplex on Valentine's Day!

I Am Number Four is the first Disney movie premiering  in 2011 and if you go to Disney SG's FB page, there is an interactive application where you can find out more about the movie.

I decided to play the “Where is Number Four?” contest.

The app game is very interesting, combining the usage of Google maps to reveal the final answer, and even utilises social media like Twitter and Facebook to engage the younger audience. Although the game's instructions weren't clear enough, but still , just answer the 7 questions featured on Twitter and you'll be able to unlock the final clue.

No Strings Attached

 

In celebration of Valentine’s Day, United International Pictures presents the love comedy, No Strings Attached. It is one of my favourite romance comedy films in months. Although I highly suspect it’s due to my adoration for Natalie Portman and slight attraction towards Ashton Kutcher. In No Strings Attached, as the name suggests, Adam (Ashton Kutcher!) and Emma (NATLIE PORTMAN!!!!! – Yes, I’m bias like that :P) agreed to be sex friends, or better known as f$%^ buddies these days. However, love got into their way… could their friendship remain platonic? Well yeah, you would say the plot is predictable…

…because Spoiler Alert (as if you don’t know what’s going to happen in the end!):

YES THEY GOT TOGETHER IN THE END!

But that wasn’t the main highlight throughout the movie you see, it was the witty lines, the funny sexual puns.

Let me pick out 5 of my favourite verbal exchanges from the film:

Eli: Who do you think you are, the old guy from "Up"?

> Of course, this scene involve a balloon, go find out why I like this line by catching the film! It’s out!

Drunk Emma:Take me to Adam's house.
Cab Driver: Where's that?
Drunk Emma: Where Adam lives.

> What alcohol does to people.

Patrice: It's like a crime scene in my pants.

> Lol, Patrice on menses.

Emma: Sometimes, my neck gets sore.
Adam: Why?
Emma: Because my brain is so big.

> Smartass doctors.

Adam: I'm warning you, if you take one step closer, I'm never letting you go.

> This was melt-worthy maximus, he even with such determination and passion, I would marry any guy who said that to me!

So glad the boyfriend could join me at a preview, like finally!

I enjoyed the movie tremendously but I can’t help but notice that some scenes from the film were different from the trailer and cut out altogether.

At 2:11 in the trailer, when Emma says “ You are such an over-achiever”, she said it with much sarcasm, and it was a good punch line. But when she said it in the full movie, it was half-hearted because she was supposedly dead drunk. Blah.

Also at 2:22, Emma hits a peak of denial and started hitting Adam in public. She even climbed onto his back and exclaimed, “Why can’t we just have sex??!!” I was waiting for the moment to happen but it never did!! What a letdown! :c

I also made the boyfriend piggyback me like how Emma did to Adam in No Strings Attached. Heh.

Oh, forgot to mention it’s M18 because of Ashton’s hot ass and the suggestive sex scenes. You can find out more about the movie at the website.

I give the film 4/5, just because reading the "quotes" still make me giggling in front of the screen. It IS memorable. :3 Bring your loved ones to watch this on V-day or something!

Infinite Playlist

In conjunction with Nuffnang's promotion of movie, Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist,  I have decided to compile a list of songs from my "Top Rated" list to share the love this festive season! 

Okay I admit, the primary reason being I haven't watched a single movie since Eagle Eye and the secondary being I want to catch this movie because there's Michael Cera in it! :D

I dedicated some time into doing this list up, and the songs might not be the exact message I want to convey, but at least I think it managed to capture the essence of it.

1) Backstreet Boys - Christmas Time

The original song is by Bryan Adams (I think) or Donny Osmond, and what struck me as an ideal first choice is that we are entering the month of December, which is my favourite holiday period and Christmas. A quick Googling of the lyrics will find you enjoying each lyrics as you read them.

2) Meryl Streep - Slipping Through My Fingers

For those who watched Mamma Mia! would know this song was sung through the voice of a mother, of how she shared her emotions as she watches her daughter grow older day by day. It's a melancholic song and it doesn't fail to remind me of how us as children should be filial.

3) Disney - The Bare Necessities

I'm not sure how other Fathers want their children to be brought up, but for my dad, he always teach us to go for the simplicities in life and what is most important is to be happy. We are not rich, neither is he well-educated, but all he ask for is a happy home.

4) The Moldy Peaches - Anyone Else But You

This song is the full version from the movie, Juno, about teenage pregnancy. Not that I want to send a wrong message across, but the story tells of two best friends falling in love with each other and it really is a very cute romantic affair. The way they bicker reminds me of my Sis and her boyfriend.

Thus, this one is definitely for the lovebirds!

5) Jennifer Hudson - All Dressed Up In Love

Abstracted from the movie soundtrack, Sex in The City, an ordinary girl-next-door seeking for true love. An easy theory: Believe in Love, Love will come find you eventually. I believe that the human nature enjoys loving as well as being loved, because it also gives us a sense of belonging.

Now if you really want one of your own

I dedicate this song to my good friends, they remind me of happy times despite ups and downs in life. 

6) Weezer - My Best Friend

Okay, this might sound really silly but this song is really simple with repeated lyrics. It depicts how I feel truly in this part ...

and I feel the pain you feel 
when you start crying 

I doubt no one will guess it right... this song I dedicate to my "best friend" dog, QQ. Heh. Don't laugh!

7) Collin Raye - Love, Me

The entire song tells about a story of man's love for his wife. Whenever I listen to this song it reminds me of my grandparents, their great old tales of romance.

This one of course, is for my grandparents!

8) Madeleine Peyroux - Dance Me To The End Of Love

Originally by Leonard Cohen, Madeleine Peyroux's rendition of this song re-ignites my passion for dance. This is how I would want to feel when I found love.

Here's my narcissistic act of dedicating this song to myself, to constantly remind me that I should start dancing again soon.

9) Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - Doll on a Music Box

I relate this song to myself, because my friends always say that I'm dependant on others, specifically a partner. Sometimes, it's not just about meeting somebody fantastic, but rather the right person at the right time. And in the musical that I caught this April at Esplanade, when the actors were singing this song, the chemistry (be it being real or not) and the kiss was perfect.

Last but not least, what with the ongoing protests in Thailand and its speculations of the coutry going to war, and Mumbai attacks these few days, I think our entire Globe needs to some love as well. I shall risk sounding like a Peace advocate here and hope there can be less bloodshed during this time.
