No Strings Attached

 

In celebration of Valentine’s Day, United International Pictures presents the love comedy, No Strings Attached. It is one of my favourite romance comedy films in months. Although I highly suspect it’s due to my adoration for Natalie Portman and slight attraction towards Ashton Kutcher. In No Strings Attached, as the name suggests, Adam (Ashton Kutcher!) and Emma (NATLIE PORTMAN!!!!! – Yes, I’m bias like that :P) agreed to be sex friends, or better known as f$%^ buddies these days. However, love got into their way… could their friendship remain platonic? Well yeah, you would say the plot is predictable…

…because Spoiler Alert (as if you don’t know what’s going to happen in the end!):

YES THEY GOT TOGETHER IN THE END!

But that wasn’t the main highlight throughout the movie you see, it was the witty lines, the funny sexual puns.

Let me pick out 5 of my favourite verbal exchanges from the film:

Eli: Who do you think you are, the old guy from "Up"?

> Of course, this scene involve a balloon, go find out why I like this line by catching the film! It’s out!

Drunk Emma:Take me to Adam's house.
Cab Driver: Where's that?
Drunk Emma: Where Adam lives.

> What alcohol does to people.

Patrice: It's like a crime scene in my pants.

> Lol, Patrice on menses.

Emma: Sometimes, my neck gets sore.
Adam: Why?
Emma: Because my brain is so big.

> Smartass doctors.

Adam: I'm warning you, if you take one step closer, I'm never letting you go.

> This was melt-worthy maximus, he even with such determination and passion, I would marry any guy who said that to me!

So glad the boyfriend could join me at a preview, like finally!

I enjoyed the movie tremendously but I can’t help but notice that some scenes from the film were different from the trailer and cut out altogether.

At 2:11 in the trailer, when Emma says “ You are such an over-achiever”, she said it with much sarcasm, and it was a good punch line. But when she said it in the full movie, it was half-hearted because she was supposedly dead drunk. Blah.

Also at 2:22, Emma hits a peak of denial and started hitting Adam in public. She even climbed onto his back and exclaimed, “Why can’t we just have sex??!!” I was waiting for the moment to happen but it never did!! What a letdown! :c

I also made the boyfriend piggyback me like how Emma did to Adam in No Strings Attached. Heh.

I give the film 4/5, just because reading the "quotes" still make me giggling in front of the screen. It IS memorable. :3 Bring your loved ones to watch this on V-day or something!

Happy Rabbit New Year!

Another year has passed and as we enter the Year of the Rabbit, it's also the time for gluttony too! The perfect excuse to indulge in excess hongbaos, bakkwa, makeup and clothes.

I used to dislike Chinese New Year (CNY), but I think as I grow older, it kinda grows on me as well. But did you notice? With the increment in your age, the lesser hongbaos you receive. :/

Anyway, I've been busy eating my heart out at two reunion dinners - one at 和平饭店 along Macpherson Road, the other at a coffee house in Elias Mall.

My favourite dish is not abalone nor shark's fin, but Yu Sheng:

We put all the healthy ingredients into a huge plate, topped with salmon slices, sweet sauce and crackers, and we toss them all together while shouting words of good luck. Recently, "HUAT AH" is more popular since it's of a lesser syllable and fun to say.

I didn't realise that most of the pictures I took are all of Yu Sheng. :/ Guess I must really like it  then. :P

Dinner at 和平饭店 was so good, I only took a shot of the sharks' fin soup, and for the rest of it I just focused on eating.

Meeting the relatives on the paternal side always make me feel funny, since we only meet once a year. The atmosphere was awkward, and the siblings will always giggle among themselves (I'm guilty of that!). For most of it, we were just typing furiously away on our phones. However, I tried to break the ice by asking if they have a Facebook account. Yes, we aren't even friends on FB. How can?!

People who meet on Twitter, blog events, clubbing...are already friends on FB, and we're not! Odd phenomenon if you ask me.

Sometimes I wonder if reunion dinners are obligatory.

Because of the dinner at 和平饭店, last night's dinner at Elias Mall seemed sub-standard. No idea why the Yu Sheng tastes so sour. :(

Still, the coffee house was mad packed and workers buzzing around. Their staff were as young as primary 4 kids!

That's me, caught slipping a strand of radish while the others while happily tossing.

For some strange reason, ah gong heard that rubbing the orange skin on his bald head will help his hair growth. -,- Nevermind because we all had a good time laughing at it! Nothing beats a happy family dinner. :3

The television set at home has decided to break down a few days before CNY and so it was a very quiet countdown last night. Dad was streaming China's celebration programme in his room, while Sis and I were busy doing our nails.

Cute or not? Bunny and carrots, geddit?

And this morning, I woke up early in the hope of heading out early to play Mahjong, but Sis and Momster took 2 hours to get ready. I ended up entertaining myself with shots of QQ and decoration in the house.

Love the flowers I picked last night from SinFlora. It has becoming an annual tradition that we will pick up pussy willow and flowers after reunion dinner, then I'll arrange them and complete the rest of the set up.

Outfit for CNY Day 1:

Sis (right) received lots of compliments today from the elderly.

I did not intend to wear this initially, this teal dress has been sitting in my wardrobe for three years now. I wanted to wear the disgusting cheongsam from Far East Plaza since I already paid so much for it, but it was really awful. Even the parents were teasing me. I look like a manager/waitress from the Chinese restaurant featured in those stupid US comedies. -,-

So yeah, the elderly liked this outfit. Conservative, sweet, mature... right. I made it better by pairing the long dress (I have a short body) with my stilettos. Hehehe. 

During lunch at Aunt's house, there's a family staying opposite her with a large collection of shoes. Out of curiosity and amazement, I asked. They have five children, that explains it. They have enough shoes to open a shop!

Last stop of the day is my favourite hideout at Gujie's.

That's my family friend-sister, the strong career woman.

And little Rachel who seems to be a little under the weather. :/

Nike Spring/ Summer 2011 - Get Your Gear On

This week, I was pleased to be invited to a private event at Naumi Hotel for Nike's Spring/Summer Collection 2011.

It was an intimate affair as we were led through the showcases of Nike's statement-making pieces and learn more about the stories behind some of Nike's classic sportswear.

In the Spring 2011 collection, the spirit of Athletics West (running club) continues in the Sportswear.

Don't miss out the N98 track jacket, which was initially designed for the Brazil national team back in 1998. What makes it stand out is the stripe down the sleeves and tailored fit for a smart-casual look. It is double knitted for comfort and features a high-rise collar to protect the neck.

Prices for N98 range from S$119 to S$159.

In Summer, Nike brought back the all-time classic - Cortez and Grand Slam Polo.

The Cortez is now  given a twist by using Nike's latest technology. The Cortez is lighter, weather-resistant, with a improved cushioning on a heel wedge design. The design is simple using nylon, while the toe panel is covered in classic suede.

The Cortez is known to be Nike's first running shoe and was designed by Bill Bowerman (Nike's co-founder) himself. The Cortez comes in both classic and modern colours, and the price range from S$79 to S$95.

Also, expect to see The Grand Slam Polo (GS Polo), which takes pride in creative embroidery made
up of Nike Swooshes.

The GS polo is made from high quality fabric with the flat-rib vented collar that allows your skin to breathe. So don't worry, just sweat it out!

There is a whole range of colours and footwear as well for the ladies. Stay cool in the hot summer days.

This canvas slip features some bold colours and check out the polkadot details in the interior of the shoe!

The Athletics West series really paid tribute to its heritage, and at the same time not comprising to the quality and style. They serve the basic performance of an athlete, but re-engineered for a trendy look.

 

Be spontaneous,  mix and match with the wide array of colours! Spice up your wardrobe with these vibrant pieces.

Or perhaps acquire some new tees? Nike's tees are made from organic cotton, which tend to cause lesser skin irritations and give more comfort.

From the Liberty of London pack, there is also the floral design which I tried out, which was super comfortable.

This shoe is designed in collaboration with the French Football Federation, which highlighted with a little French flag at the back, the upper body is made with denim.

I also thought guys would look very cool in this shoe with a unique shoelace tie. 

The Woven Chukka Motion takes inspiration from the foot scapes and free motion.

The hospitality was great, and I really liked Naumi Hotel (it's a boutique hotel).
